Are You Selling Your Soul?
by Perry Sexton
Jesus taught in Mark 8:36,37 that our soul is the most valuable possession we have. He said: "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?"
The question is: are we selling our souls?
- Many sell their souls for material gain (1 Timothy 6:10).
- Others sell their souls for immorality (Galatians 5:19‑21).
- And love of this world (2 Timothy 4:10; 1 John 2:15-17).
- Still others sell their souls for religious error (easy religions such as “faith only”) and the traditions of men—family religion, etc. (Matthew 15:9; 7:21‑23).
We should follow the good example of Paul and be willing to change religions when we find the truth. We all, no matter how much one thinks he/she is saved, need to study the Bible and obey God's will (Romans 6:17; 2 Thessalonians 1:8). Take the advice Paul gave the Corinthians: “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves” (2 Corinthians 13:5). How else can we see if we are in the faith, unless we “look into the perfect law of liberty” (James 1:25) and study to show ourselves “approved unto God” (2 Timothy 2:15)?
Many think they are saved, but are in reality, lost (Matt. 7:21-23)! Are you selling your soul for “peace” found in religious error which is no true peace? Please consider Jeremiah 6:13-16. ♥
